Regional Chaplaincy Coordinators

The following chaplains have been appointed by Chaplain Dwight Jennings to serve as Regional Chaplaincy Coordinators for their respective college/university region. They will provide pastoral care to the chaplains on their region and help raise denominational awareness of chaplaincy ministry.

CNUC/Canada Region: Chaplain Deborah Tanasiecuk 
      Chaplain Debbie is currently Protestant chaplain at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, a men's medium security correctional facility, in Prince Albert, SK where she has served since 2001. She received a Bachelor of Theology from Canadian Nazarene College (now Canadian Nazarene University College) and a Master of Divinity from the University of Winnipeg. Debbie was ordained in 1995 and has served in a variety of ministries including associate pastor, pastor, Dean of Women, and Dean of Student Life. Debbie is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Nazarene Theological Seminary. 
      
Debbie is married to Don and they have one daughter, Dori who is ten years old. She has an active role in her local Church of the Nazarene as associate pastor where she enjoys teaching adult Sunday School, preaching and participating in leadership development.

ENC/Eastern Region: Chaplain Barry Cook 
      Barry Cook graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in 1980 with a BA in Religion and psychology (Magna Cum Laude). In 1983 he received an MDiv form Nazarene Theological Seminary and was ordained on the Upstate New York district in 1985. 
      
He was Associate Pastor at Valley Stream Church of the Nazarene, Pastor of Canastota Church of the Nazarene, and is currently the Pastor of New Life Community Church of the Nazarene (formerly Westbury). 
      
Barry has been a chaplain for the New York State Corrections system for 15 years. Barry and his wife Paula have been married for 37 years and have four children and eight grandchildren. 

 

 

MNU/North Central Region: Chaplain Ken Chamberlain 
     Ken Chamberlain was born in a parsonage in 1956. His father Bruce pastored Pilgrim Holiness (now Wesleyan) and Nazarene churches for about 45 years. Ken’s grandfather Ray was a Pilgrim Holiness missionary most of his life, serving for a while as District Superintendent to Jamaica and Grand Cayman. 

     Ken and his wife Mary pastored Nazarene churches in Bridgeport, Texas, Fritch, Texas, and Ozark, Missouri, serving for a total of 23 years. He resigned the Ozark church after Easter 2005 to become a full-time staff chaplain at St. John’s hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Ken and Mary have been married 29 years, and Mary has been a librarian for over 20 years. Their son Josh is a college senior in Springfield. Their daughter Heather graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and now lives and works full time in St. Louis.  
     Ken graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Mid-America Nazarene University in 1978. He graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1982 from Nazarene Theological Seminary. 
 

 

MVNU/East Central Region: Chaplain Rick Williamson
     Chaplain Williamson is married to Gladys (now 36 years). They met at Mid-America Nazarene University. Rick and Gladys have two adult children, Melissa, and Jared, both of whom live in New Albany, Indiana. Rick is professor of biblical literature at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU), having served there since 2001. He was for five years a chaplain to adult and graduate students of MVNU. Prior to coming to MVNU he was chaplain for 10 years in healthcare as a hospital-based chaplain, as well as 11 years as a chaplain in the Army National Guard/Reserve. Other ministry experience includes 15 years as senior pastor in the Church of the Nazarene (Iowa and Indiana). He has specialized training in ministry to people living with AIDS, Critical Incident Stress, and suicide awareness.
     Williamson is a graduate of Mid-America Nazarene University (1972), Nazarene Theological Seminary (1975), the University of Iowa (1987), and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1993). He is a board certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains and a member of the Ohio Chaplains Association.
     Some of Chaplain Williamson’s writings related to chaplaincy have appeared in the Journal of Pastoral Care and Counseling, the Preacher’s Magazine, and Lectionary Homiletics. In 2005 he was a workshop co-writer for Exploring Chaplaincy Ministry: An Overview Of Relevant Opportunities To Expand A Pastor’s Effective Ministry And Spiritual Impact Beyond The Sphere of A Local Church, a twelve lesson module for the Deacon’s Course of Study for the Church of the Nazarene.
     Rick enjoys time with family, travel, woodworking and sports.

Seelig

PLNU/Southwest Region:  Chaplain Steve Seelig
     Steve Seelig was raised in a pastor’s home, graduated from Pasadena College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications, earned a Master of Arts in Theology from Point Loma College in 1975, and a Master of Divinity in 1981 and Doctor of Ministry in 1993 from Fuller Theological Seminary. He was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene in 1977 and pastored growing churches for 23 years. 
     Chaplain Seelig has served as Senior Director of Planned Giving at Point Loma Nazarene University since 1996, where he has developed significant stewardship resources for many Christian ministries.
     Since 1982 he has served in the United States Navy as a Chaplain in the Reserve in a variety of roles, and is currently the Region Southwest Deputy Chaplain, recently reaching the rank of Captain. Chaplain Seelig has taken specialized training in renewal counseling, ethics, alcohol rehabilitation, drug abuse, clinical pastoral education (CPE), clinical incident stress management (CISM), and is certified in estate and gift planning. 
     Steve has been married to Bobbi for 35 years, lives in San Diego, and has two married daughters, Stephanie and Stacie, and one grandson, Ben. Steve enjoys golf, tennis, kayaking, sailing and spending time with his family.

SNU/South Central Region: Chaplain Gaetano Franzese 
     Chaplain Franzese was born and raised in a little village in southern Italy. He came in contact with the Church of the Nazarene through Rev. Paul Wire who was a missionary in Florence, Italy. He came to America at the age of twenty-four to attend college and seminary, receiving his BA from Bethany Nazarene College in 1972 and his Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1976.
     Franzese is a retired Army Chaplain. He provided spiritual leadership to multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and various international groups in numerous locations (USA, Korea, Italy, and SHAPE Belgium). He has pastored in various locations in the United States as well as in Italy. From July 2001 to July 2008 he was Chaplain at Oklahoma State Penitentiary-Maximum Security Prison (OSP), in McAlester, Oklahoma, where he experienced ministry based on GRACE rather than RACE. 
     He and his wife Brenda reside in McAlester, Oklahoma. They have two outstanding children, son Pietro and daughter Gina, and two beautiful granddaughters, Alysha and Morgan.  Since Gaetano's retirement from OSP in 2008, he and Brenda have been traveling and spending quality time with their family, visiting them in Kansas and Texas.  Gaetano enjoys reading, walking exercises, and ministry through Chaplaincy Services in whatever capacity is available.

TNU/Southeast Region: Chaplain Don Dunlap 
      
Chaplain Dunlap was born in a Nazarene parsonage in Decatur, Alabama in 1942. In 1973, Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) conferred on him the Master's of Divinity degree. Previously (1969), he received the B.A. degree in religion from Trevecca Nazarene University (formerly College). Before his academic achievements, he served in the United States Navy. 
      
Dunlap served 26 years as pastor in the Church of the Nazarene. Since pastoring, he has served as a chaplain in the hospital, fire, police, and workplace settings. He is president of Care@Work, Inc., a company that provides chaplaincy services in the workplace. He is also an adjunct instructor in Biblical Studies and Values at Trevecca Nazarene University. 
      
Dunlap has been married to Nancy (Carter) for 37 years. She is the Director of Alumni Services at Trevecca Nazarene University. They have two daughters: Shelly and Lori. Shelly is the mother of their two grandsons: Austin and Andrew. Lori recently graduated from Trevecca and she is a student at NTS.
